Description

Worsening natural disasters and disparate living conditions demand that we integrate a climate resilience and adaptation lens into transportation and mobility decisions. Low-income people of color are most impacted by and excluded from insufficient transportation infrastructure, car-centric evacuation planning, and face more difficulty rebuilding their lives post-disaster. Greenlining’s session will present our principles and recommendations for equitable resilient mobility - prioritizing solutions at the intersection of mobility equity, climate resilience and racial equity. The session will illustrate the connections between racial equity, disaster prevention, response and recovery. Greenlining will answer the question as to how we can build back more resilient and equitable mobility options that are resilient to extreme weather events and a rapidly changing climate -- in a way that is led by, and centered around the needs of people. Some additional questions we will unpack include: - As the frequency and severity of natural disasters increase, how will the need to charge vehicles and other mobility options impact people’s ability to evacuate from harm’s way? -Following natural disasters, how can we build back more resilient and equitable electric mobility options?
