Description

State-level statutory shifts from punitive to protective responses for trafficked youth have increasingly relied on child welfare to meet the needs of impacted young people. However, this approach has come at a significant cost to the system, communities, and families. To reduce strain and improve outcomes, one community has piloted an alternative approach: capacity building and mobilizing within community, complementing what exists with innovative funding, collaboration, and research to support youth survivors, strengthen protective factors for at-risk youth, and achieve cost-effectiveness. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in interactive activities to begin mapping out an actionable framework for identifying and catalyzing strengths, partnerships, funding, and resources within their own community to generate a co-designed, community-based response to trafficked youth.
