This year, Congress passed the Trafficking Survivors Relief Act (TSRA), which for the first time allows expungement of federal criminal convictions. This session will discuss the early developments in applying the TSRA, including motions that have been filed and other relief that the act provides. We will cover not only TSRA expungement motions, but also the Human Trafficking Defense and mitigation of sentences. The workshop will also review expungement & vacatur policies for state court convictions as well as discussing the concept of Victim-Offender Intersectionality and arguments & strategies on affirmative defenses and sentencing mitigation.
