Description

This training explores the impact of generational trauma on parenting and the long-term effects it can have on the parent–child relationship. Drawing on research, professional experience, and survivor-informed insight, Russell G. Wilson examines how unresolved trauma, system involvement, and survival-based coping strategies shape parenting beliefs, attachment, communication, and discipline. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of how trauma is transmitted across generations, how parents with lived experience navigate caregiving while healing, and how systems can unintentionally reinforce harm. The training offers trauma-informed strategies to support parents, strengthen parent–child relationships, and interrupt cycles of trauma through empathy, stability, and relational repair. This session is designed for professionals working with families, caregivers, and systems-involved youth who seek a deeper, more nuanced understanding of parenting through trauma.
