Monique Garvin, South Carolina Office of the Attorney General
Children and adolescents compose a majority of the identified victims of sex and/or labor trafficking in South Carolina. Recent studies indicate the use of the internet to recruit and exploit minors has become increasingly prevalent. Regardless of the context of these crimes, those who perpetrate these offenses often target the most vulnerable amongst us. Join us to learn how the South Carolina Human Trafficking Task Force developed TraffickProofSC, a series of free, educational videos and curriculum aligned to SC standards for grades 8-12. This initiative serves as the first statewide human trafficking prevention education curriculum highlighting the importance of educating youth and their families on the realities of human trafficking. Without prevention education, we could not effectively prevent, protect, and respond to the harmful effects of this crime and break the cycle of abuse and exploitation.
