Familial Child Sex Trafficking: Organized Rings and the Long-term Effects from a survivor’s perspective This facilitated discussion with author and lived experience expert Adira James will serve as a comprehensive exploration of familial child sex trafficking. Joined by Melissa Snow, Executive Director of Child Sex Trafficking Programs at the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, they will provide an overview of the different forms of familial child sex trafficking, including a breakdown of offender motivation and indicators. Adira’s lived experience and expertise will provide a deep dive into a form of familial trafficking that is motivated by child sexual abuse and uses pedophile rings as an organizational method. The exploiters usage and long-term impact of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) will also be discussed, as production of CSAM starting as early as infancy and toddler age typically accompanies this crime. When a child is trafficked by their family, the abuse starts as early as infancy and can continue throughout the developmental stages of the child and even into adulthood. Adira will talk about her experience with the long-term psychological effects and medical impact. Together, Adira and Melissa are committed to increasing understanding and awareness of this form of trafficking to empower social workers, teachers, law enforcement, medical professionals, and therapists to be able to identify and respond to survivors.
