Description

The purpose of this workshop is to discuss the critical keys to successful collaboration in the fight against human trafficking and coordinated community responses. Drawing on insights from a comprehensive needs assessment conducted by the University of South Florida’s TIP Lab, along with valuable insights from lived experience experts, this session will provide a nuanced understanding of the collaborative landscape and strategies for partnership, including the importance of incorporating relationships with academics. This workshop will explore how utilizing a Participatory Action Research (PAR) framework can inform community needs and foster a culture of collaboration. Presenters will discuss the application of PAR strategies in the BRIGHT Project, highlighting how these strategies have been instrumental in understanding and addressing the needs of the community. An interactive discussion will follow, allowing participants to share their experiences and insights on how PAR can be applied in their own communities. A key focus will be on developing victim-centered response models based on lived experiences and community needs. Presenters will share insights and strategies for creating a response model that prioritizes the experiences and needs of victims. Examples from the BRIGHT Project will be used to illustrate how a victim-centered approach can lead to more effective and compassionate responses to human trafficking, while leveraging technology. Participants will be introduced to the BRIGHT Project, a pioneering initiative designed to enhance collaboration among service providers through a secure and vetted resource referral network. Presenters will delve into the project's design, implementation, and impact on service provider collaboration in Florida. Participants will gain insights into how fostering strong, trust-based relationships among service providers, academics, law enforcement, and community members has created a comprehensive and unbiased collaboration framework. This approach ensures that all stakeholders are integral to the response model, promoting a holistic and inclusive strategy. Participants will experience a live demonstration of the BRIGHT system, showcasing its user-friendly interface and robust functionalities. The demonstration will emphasize the benefits of using a secure referral network to facilitate seamless communication and resource sharing among service providers. Attendees will see firsthand how utilizing technology can streamline collaborative efforts and improve service delivery. The workshop will conclude with a discussion on replicating the BRIGHT Project in other regions. Presenters will provide practical applications and strategies for enhancing collaboration through technology, offering participants a roadmap for implementing similar initiatives in their own communities.
