Description

This presentation goes through a case which occurred in Mohave County with a youth who is justice involved. The juvenile was placed on probation in Mohave County in late 2021 for offenses of three counts of Unlawful Use of Transportation-Control; Criminal Damage in an Amount over $2000; Theft of Credit Card; and Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card. The specific case information begins when a youth enters the juvenile justice system at the age of 13 to current day and the trauma this youth went through. We will also discuss the red flags and warning signs observed, collaboration required from all different agencies and what could have been done better to ensure youth do not go through the same experience. We will discuss the collaboration of probation and parole officer in multiple states, probation officers assigned to the United States Marshals Service Fugitive Apprehension Unit and local law enforcement, how they worked together to find and rescue the youth from her trafficker. We discuss the different services and programs attempted through probation and ultimately how this youth was sentence to the Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections.
