In our fun and interactive session, we will share stories, unlearn harmful language, create engagement values, understand our roles and responsibilities in creating space for each other, and explore what accountability feels like. Expected takeaways from this abstract include:

  • Participants lead through an activity that will analyze micro-aggressions, extraction and tokenism, by giving examples and encouraging participants to share their stories.
  • Participants will learn about targeted universalism and will learn how to focus on changing personal habits and behaviors that will lead to building better relationships with a foundation of trust and responsiveness to others needs.
  • Participants will understand their role and responsibilities in creating safer spaces, professionally and personally. Participants will be able to identify basic guidelines used to start and tools to uphold a safer space.

In today's rapidly changing world, creating a psychologically safe space for discussions and learning is of paramount importance. Such a space fosters open and honest communication, encourages constructive feedback, and promotes personal and professional growth. Psychological safety is defined as a climate in which individuals feel comfortable expressing their ideas, sharing their opinions, and challenging assumptions without fear of being judged, ridiculed, or penalized. It is a fundamental aspect of effective teamwork, decision-making, and innovation. A psychologically safe space promotes a culture of learning, where individuals can freely explore new ideas, experiment with different approaches, and take risks without the fear of failure. In addition, a psychologically safe space encourages respect, empathy, and inclusivity, and helps to create a sense of belonging and community.

Implementing a psychological safe space based on belonging can have numerous positive benefits for individuals and organizations, including:

  • Increased engagement
  • Higher creativity and innovation
  • Improved collaboration
  • Greater job satisfaction and retention
  • Enhanced diversity and inclusion
  • Improved communication
  • Increased productivity
