Dr. Donghun Kim received his Ph.D. degree from Purdue University with focus on thermal energy systems. He has worked as a research assistant professor at the School of Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University and is currently a research scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab. His academic background includes modeling, system identification, machine learning, control (model predictive control in particular) and optimization to develop, evaluate and deploy HVAC solutions and advanced control algorithms. He developed an identification algorithm and model predictive controller to coordinate multiple Rooftop units, and algorithms for generating reduced order models for building envelope systems and dynamic vapor compression systems. He is a subcommittee chair of Building Operations and Dynamics (TC 7.5 Smart Building System) of ASHRAE, technical committee member of ASME Energy Systems, and member of IEEE.
