Sophia Rousseau is the Managing Attorney for Safe Exit Initiative's legal services program, The Advocacy Project. Sophia began her work with Survivors of the sex trade as an Assistant District Attorney in Queens County, New York, handling cases involving familial violence and sex abuse. During this time, Sophia also assisted with prosecution of cases arising out of the County’s misdemeanor HT Intervention Court. Sophia was promoted to the felony HT Unit in 2017, primarily prosecuting sex trafficking cases involving violent traffickers. After the DA’s Office, Sophia transitioned to civil rights litigation, working at the New York City Commission on Human Rights in the Gender-Based Harassment Unit, investigating civil rights allegations under the expansive NYC Human Rights Code. In Massachusetts, Sophia served as an Assistant Attorney General in the Attorney General's Office's HT Division, where she handled a high volume of complex sex trafficking and labor trafficking cases.
