Description
Since it was first charged in a trailblazing indictment, this case has transited a multi-year investigation and pre-trial litigation, interlocutory appeals, and two jury trials. Backpage.com was at one point among the largest on-line classified advertising websites in the United States. Through its business model, its owners and operators profited from its sustained promotion of prostitution and sex trafficking. In 2018, Backpage was seized and shut down, hundreds of millions of dollars have been recovered, and innumerable victims have been protected from harm. This workshop chronicles the case from the investigation stage through years of pre-trial litigation, a three-month jury trial and sentencing.
