“I Don’t Need Your Input on Napkins—Show Me the Money”: Transforming Special Events into Mission-Driven Success Stories
Track
Special Events
Experience Level
2 - Intermediate (4-6 years in the industry)
Description
Special events are more than just one-time parties—they’re opportunities to elevate your mission, engage your community, and raise significant funds. However, event planning can often be derailed by rogue committees, outdated concepts, or an overemphasis on the wrong details (looking at you, napkins and centerpieces). This session is designed to provide actionable strategies for turning your special events into premiere, mission-centered experiences that are both profitable and inspiring.
Using examples from both large and small development shops, we’ll share insights on:
- Effectively managing committees to harness their strengths while maintaining control. (And why you need one!)
- Branding and refreshing events to stand out in a crowded philanthropic landscape.
- Engaging both “eaters” and “bidders” with strategies to maximize participation and revenue.
- Establishing your event as a cornerstone of your mission, not just a fun gathering.
Our mantra? “They come for the party, but stay for the mission.
